Card Design: Path of Positivity #27 Midway--Happiness

Hello again!  Supper is finished, the dishes have been put in the dishwasher and now it is time for me to get my final post out for the day--only 5+ hours late!  I think I've made a record today.  Between all three blogs, I have had to create five posts.  Of course all but one has been late.  So before this one gets any later, it is time to show you the creation I made for the midway of The Path of Positivity Challenge.  I'll also be sharing the freebies from this month's challenge as well, which you can find at the bottom of the post.

The theme this month is Happiness.  Like I mentioned at the start of the challenge over on the PoP blog, happiness is something that we all strive for.  Unfortunately, many people keep working towards it and never allow themselves to experience it.  "If I could just get a job that I enjoy, I'll be happy."  "If I could finally lose those 20 lbs, I could be happy."  "If I could ....".  Stop making your happiness contingent on achieving your goals.  Simply shut down the 'if only's' dialogues and be happy in the present whatever your present situation might be. If things are difficult and your experiencing heartache or sadness, try to find a little happiness in the small things.  The smile on your partner or child's face; the purr of a kitten; allowing the sun to beam down on your face--these are all small things that can bring a little bit of happiness, even for just a few moments.  For the rest of us, it is time to be happy with who we are, right here and right now.

This month our sponsors are...

Since I'm on the Imagine That! Design Team, I opted to work with an image from a designer I've never worked with before. I found a great one for this challenge that worked great for the theme of happiness.

There are all kinds of events that can make a person happy.  One of them is a birthday.  While we may not like the number of candles that start accumulating on our birthday cakes as we age, we generally still enjoy the festivities surrounding the special day we were born.  When we're lucky enough to have people close to us to celebrate with, our birthdays can be an even happier occasion.  That is why I created a birthday card for the theme of this challenge.  The image I found just exudes happiness to me.  It certainly puts a big smile on my face and I hope it will for the recipient as well.

General info:
  • This card has been inspired by a design I saw over at Addicted to CAS.  The original designer is Bonnie Klass.  She does beautiful CAS designs.  The original card that inspired me can be found HERE.
  • I really liked pop of red on white and especially the scoring around the image.  While it is a bit difficult to see, I scored at 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch all the way around.

Card Design: 12MoC Ch. #6Midway...Opt. Vintage Theme

http://12monthsofchristmaslinkup.blogspot.ca/

Hello!  Boy oh boy am I running late.  Not only did my first post not go out on time (even though it was actually ready) but this one is late and my next one is going to be as well.  As soon as I get this one done it will be on to the midway for the Path of Positivity.

First up though, it is time to announce the midway for the June challenge and link up over at The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up.  Normally I post at the start but was so behind, that I am posting my card at the mid point instead.  I'm starting to feel like the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland.

Don't forget that this link up is basically two-fold.  First of all, you are still going to have the opportunity to link up any number of Christmas and December holiday themed cards throughout the month with an anything goes theme. At the end of each month, every person who has linked up a MINIMUM of two (2) Christmas or holiday themed cards will be eligible to receive a specially designed Christmas themed digital paper created by moi. That means that if you submit two cards each month, by the time that the year is done, you will have received 12 free digital papers, all for the low cost of linking up cards you need to create anyway. You do not need to use the digital paper you receive each month in your cards in order to get the next paper. They are strictly meant as incentive to participate.

While team members had the option of working with any of my Décosse's Dynamite Doodles papers, I did create a special set called A Grungy Christmas, based on the theme for this challenge.  Check out the preview...

Everyone who links up a minimum of two cards during the month of June will earn ONE of the digital papers from this set.  The specific paper up for grabs will be shown during the winner announcement post.  If you would like to have a say in determining which colour will be offered, you can answer the poll we've set up in the sidebar on the top right hand side of The 12 Months of Christmas Link Up blog.

The second part of the challenge provides even more incentive to play. Each month there will be an OPTIONAL theme to follow. This month the optional theme is Vintage.  In order to have a chance to win the prize from our wonderful guest sponsor this month, make sure that your card has a vintage theme.  You can find more details over on the Challenge #6 post. You can find that post and the link up by clicking HERE.

Also, be sure to check out all the rules and details on the Challenge Details Page. We have provided examples of a few different scenarios to help explain things and make them a bit clearer, in case there is any confusion.

This month our wonderful guest sponsor is

Card Design: Scribbles Designs Challenge #30...

Oh poopiedoop, this post should have gone out this morning.  I was certain I had scheduled it, anyway sorry about that....

Hello to you on this very busy Monday.  It is the midway for both the 12 Months of Christmas and the Path of Positivity along with the start of our new challenge over at the Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog today.   This is the first of three posts so I hope you get the chance to come back and visit me later this evening as well!

This time around, for Challenge #30, the theme is Feathers, Fins or Frog Legs.  When we think of animals, generally our first thoughts often go to those that inhabit the lands around us--whether domestic or wild.  But what about the air above us and the waters below?  There is so much beauty out there, above and below land, that we often forget about.  Therefore, this month we want to see a project featuring avian or aquatic life.  So, what will it be--fins, feathers or frog legs?  However, in deference to our beloved SD character Carl, please be sure that if you chose frog legs, they remain attached to the rest of the frog.

In order to participate in our challenges you DO NOT NEED TO USE A SCRIBBLES DESIGNS IMAGE on your project but you must follow the monthly theme and the other rules that have been established for our particular challenge blog.  You can find them, along with the prize information, listed in the right hand sidebar of the challenge blog.  This challenge will end at 9pm PST on July 14th.

You can purchase your Scribbles Designs images HERE and there is a free image over on the challenge blog as well to help get you started.  Also, be sure to check out the special Freebie Friday posts as it is another great way to build your Scribbles Designs collection.

To help inspire you, I have created a fun digital card to let a friend know how awesome they are.  This card features a couple of Sandy's great fish images so as you can see I've opted for the FINS portion of the theme.

Here are my card and all the details...

General Information:
  • This card was created 100% digitally and then layered in a poster mockup.  I've been finding these awesome free design mockups.  It is a great way to see how a particular design might look in a poster, on a t-shirt, a bag, a book or about a million other places you can think of.  To me it will be a great way to showcase some future digital designs.
  • I used two fish that I had paper pieced digitally for a previous project and then just created a whole new concept for them.

Digital Image Details:
  • Tropical Fish 2 and Tropical Fish 4:  I love these fun fish.  Click on the names or the watermarks below to head to their respective locations in the store.
  • Parts of these image have been coloured digitally, parts have been paper pieced and then parts have had a glitter layer style applied, courtesy of Marisa Lerin, Pixel Scrapper.  The parts that have been paper pieced have been done with digital papers from the Funky Florals set created by Jeanine Baechtold, available at {Computer} Scrapbook.com (see details below).
Digital Embellishment Details:
  • The flowers and yarn art creations are digital embellishments also from the Funky Florals set.
  • The wire frames are from Marisa Lerin, Pixel Scrapper.

Digital Sentiment Details:
  • This great sentiment was created by Paulette from Create with TLC.  As many of you know, I'm a sucker for a good play on words and this sentiment was perfect for this card.    While I picked it up as a freebie a while back, you can purchase it as part of the OFishally (Officially) Digi Word Art and Vintage Image set.  I've linked the set watermark below to take you to its location in the store.  For more great freebies, click HERE to go to Paulette's blog and to purchase some wonderful sets, click HERE to go to the store.

  • The shadows to give each element some depth were created with a layer style, also from Sheila Reid.
Digital Papers and some of the Embellishments:
  • All of the digital products used (excluding image, sentiment, and frames) are from the Funky Florals set created by Jeanine Baechtold, available at {Computer} Scrapbook.com.
  • As mentioned in a previous post, now is the perfect time to head over to {Computer} Scrapbook.com as ALL their scrapbooking kits are currently FREE. Not sure how long it will last so be sure to check them out.
