Card Design: Celebrate World Card Making Day with TLC Creations

Hello everyone and happy 'World Card Making Day' (WCMD) for 2015.  I'm afraid that this week has been even more busy than usual so I'm getting a rather late start to a few posts today: one in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and two in honour of this special day.

The first post that I want to share with you is regarding the card I created for the WCMD event taking place on the TLC Creations blog.  To help celebrate, Paulette is offering up for free, the beautiful vintage owl image you see on my card below.  Not only is she generously sharing this free image on her blog, but if you create a project using the owl image, she'll send you another one for free as a gift AND everyone who submits a card will also be entered into a drawing for a $10.00 gift certificate to the TLC Store.

Check out what I created...

General Info:
  • This card was created 100% digitally and then layered in a poster mockup.
  • My layout was inspired by an old sketch from Crazy 4 Challenges.

FRONT
Digital Image Details:
  • As mentioned above, the beautiful vintage owl image is available for free over on Paulette's blog. You can click HERE to find it.
  • When I originally saw the image I decided that I wanted to keep it in black and white and give my whole card a classic kind of feel to it.

Digital Embellishment Details:
  • The paper accordion which I doubled (using a black one in behind and the white in front), along with the duplicated buttons and the flower, are all elements that I created based on templates from Sheila Reid, Pixel Scrapper.

INSIDE
 Digital Sentiment Details:
  • As many of you know, I love a play on words so I knew just the sentiment I wanted to pair with this great image.  Of course it is also one from Create with TLC. For great freebies and inspiration be sure to click HERE to go to Paulette's blog and for awesome sets for purchase, click HERE to go to the home page of the store.

OVERALL
Digital Embellishments:

  • The shapes used for matting in behind the image and sentiment are simple shapes created in Photoshop Elements.
  • The shadows to give each element some depth were created with a layer style, also from Sheila Reid.

Digital Paper Products:
  • The background paper is from Imagine That! Digis by Kris.  I just love this set of black and white papers.  I thought the one I chose complimented the feathers of my owls even though it is a leaf pattern.  Funny how things work like that!  You can find this awesome set of papers over in the Imagine That! Digis by Kris store by clicking HERE or on the watermark below.

  • The accent piece I used on the front is one of the bonus grunge papers from my Ghostie Delights set of papers.
 Other Notes:
  • The poster mockup that I used to display the card is from Design Bolts.

Challenges I am hoping to enter...

So what are you waiting for!??  Create your card using the fabulous free image being offered up over on the TLC Creations blog and then either email or link up your card to win.  Of course you need to hurry as the link up is only active until approximately 9:30 p.m. EDT tomorrow evening (Sunday, Oct. 4th).

The effort is worth it, as not only do you get another free image but remember you also get a chance to win a $10.00 gift certificate.

Good luck everyone and have fun!

I have a special Giveaway in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month that I am doing in collaboration with Imagine That! Digis by Kris to share with you next and then, I'll be having a World Card Making Day celebration of my own; so, I hope that you'll come back and see me later on this afternoon and evening!

Until then,
