86,400 seconds

If you are new to my blog and would like to know why I started "Thursdays Are For Thanksgiving", please go HERE.

The tragedy that has befallen CT, USA, at the Sandy Hook School is yet another reminder that we can't take a single moment in our lives for granted.  So, please tell the people in your life that are important to you, the people who make a difference, the people you love, the people you are friends with, even the people who challenge you, TELL THEM ALL what they mean to you.
Thank each one for being in your life while you have the chance.

If any of you out there are interested in making a card for someone who has been caught up in this devastating disaster, you can send them to:

Sandy Hook Elementary School
C/O Board of Education
3 Primrose Street
Newtown Connecticut 06470

or
the Newtown's Post Office address that has been set up to take condolences:
Messages of Condolence
P. O. Box 3700
Newtown, CT 06470
I got the information from the Kaboodlebug Facebook Page.  You might want to investigate that these are the most current addresses before you actually send anything out.

There isn't much we can do so far away from this town in mourning.  However, I believe the prayers that we say and the cards of condolence we create not only help to comfort the people receiving them but also help us to come to terms with such sadness.

'Thursday's Are For Thanksgiving' will be back in the new year.

Until next time,

Bragging Boots Firmly Ensconced: Another Challenge Win

I'm putting on my bragging boots for a moment to let you all know that I've won another card challenge.  Yeah me!  I entered a card challenge over at Word Art Wednesday last week using my get well card for Sebastian, and Karen just sent me an email message to let me know I had won.  Actually it was kind of funny because at first I had thought Karen had made a mistake.  The message began with "Hi Jennifer, we're so glad..." so my first thought was that Karen had just mixed up my email address with the actual winner's.  However, another message quickly followed from Karen apologizing for using the wrong name.  Jennifer, whoever she is, must have been on Karen's mind but that was okay, everything turned out just fine.

So I went from

                              to

  in a matter of moments.

Now you need to know why this is so exciting for me.  Yes, I understand that these challenges are random draws but in my life I rarely win anything.  So, the fact that I've managed to win two card challenges in just the last three weeks is next to phenomenal for me.

So thanks to 'Mr. Random Generator', Linda and the gang--oops, no that should be Karen and the gang from Word Art Wednesday (sorry Karen, I couldn't resist).  I have won two Stampin' Up Stamp Sets from Cynthia Millan from Stampin' Up . The sets I won are The Come to Bethlehem set and the Crosses of Hope set.  I can't wait to make some beautiful creations with these sets.  I don't have any crosses so this is A*W*E*S*O*M*E!

I just wanted to share my good news with all my new friends.  Now, I'm off to add my winner's badge to my side bar.

Thanks for stopping by.  Don't forget to come back tomorrow because the holiday handouts are not done yet.  I'm up to number eleven in the list.  Have you missed any?

Until next time,

Holiday Handout: Day 9

Today's handout is based on an idea I got at A Look Through My Eyes.  Deb's daughter created some papers for Deb to pass out.  One of them was a Christmas paper using an element from another designer.  Which started me thinking about another way to utilize the designs of great designers who have graciously allowed me to use their designs in my own work.   I've offered it flat and textured to suit different purposes.  What do you think?

I've offered the jpg version here due to file size.  If you would like the png version just email me and I'd be happy to send it to you.  Again, the papers should be 1800x1800 but could end up much larger depending on the program you use.

Please note that due to the nature of this design, you may not use it on products you intend to sell since the foreground image is for personal use only with no profit generation.  If you use this paper please ensure that you also credit Romiposer 11 for the image.

Motivational Monday: Season of Joy? Not for everyone.

If you are new to my blog and would like to know why I started Motivational Mondays, please go HERE.

I developed the thought for this post a couple of weeks ago.  I never realized how relevant it would become in the wake of the terrible, senseless shooting of innocent children and adults that occurred in Connecticut just a few short days ago…

While this may be a season of joy for many of us as we prepare for and commemorate Hanukah, Christmas, St. Lucia Day, Kwanza and other winter celebrations, there are some who find this time of year extremely difficult.  For anyone who has lost a loved one, for anyone who is dealing with depression, for anyone who is separated from family for one reason or another, for anyone who is lost or alone, the holiday season can be very difficult to get through.  Even people who are in a good place in their lives can find the holidays difficult due to the enormous stress that they manage to heap on themselves to ensure that this time of year is special for everyone around them.

However, the wonderful thing about the internet is that you are never truly alone.  If you are reading this then you are connected to me and I to you.  Support is just a keyboard click away.  If you are one of those individuals finding this time of the season difficult please reach out to family, friends or community resources.  You don’t need to deal with your anxieties by yourself.

Know that you are not alone.

Here is my gift for you this Monday.

If you are interested in the information used to create this sentiment, I have included it below along with my other usual caveats.  Please note that due to the nature of this design, you may not use it on products you sell since one of the fonts is for personal use only with no profit generation.

Holiday Handout: Day 8

Peace.

Imagine a world where there was peace everyone.  Is it impossible?

We can only wish that one day our world is filled with people who's highest objective is that of creating peace.  Until then do your own part to keep peace in your hearts during this holiday season and always.

Sunday Spotlight: December 16, 2012

Before I get to today's post I'd just like to say that my heart goes out to all the families, friends, and neighbours of the people who lost their lives in such a tragic way, in the Sandy Hook School shooting in Connecticut, USA.  It is such a tragedy and I can't imagine the pain in their hearts right now.  Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.
____________________________________________________________________________________

Man, less than ten days to go before the big day.  Christmas that is--for those of us who celebrate it, anyways.  I am still in the midst of the Christmas card panic but I've given up trying to get as many done as I hoped.  Other than the three I have posted, I managed to get three others completed; although, I will not be posting them until sometime in the new year.  Good thing there are lots of 'anything goes' challenges and a few blogs dedicated solely to Christmas cards.  As it is, I still have four more to go.  I feel a little guilty because the person who is most important in my life is going to get a card that will be pretty clean and simple.  That is of course when I figure out what it is I'm going to make him.  I hope you have all been enjoying the 'holiday handouts' and that you'll get some use out of them next year.  Well, that is enough about me, let us get on with the reason you are all here.

If you are just visiting for the first time, it is that time of week when I say a particular thank you to one of my readers acknowledging them for something thoughtful, inspiring, or mindful that they have said in one of their comments.  As a way of saying thanks, I will present this person with an advanced copy of a freebie that I promise, no one else will be able to get their hand on for at least three months and possibly longer.

So without further ado, the comment I'm highlighting and reflecting on this week belongs to...

IKE

Oh - I agree. A. Your Blog is fun to read and I like the chance to see other people's work I might not have found on my own. B. Yep - don't knock yourself !! I often see things that make me slack-jawed in amazement and I say.. why can't I do that?... but I apparently do things that make other people slack-jawed, so I just have a different 'style'. I'd love to do pretty, pretty, gushy, smushy magnolia type schtuff but it doesn't work for me and I just can't. LoL We are all different and it is a good idea to look back to something you did last year, 2/3 years back and then step back and see how far you've come !! I am amazed with some of my early stuff.... it's total shiiite LoL We learn such a lot from others. Keep up this fabby Blog Lisa Hugz Ike xxxx on Sunday Spotlight: November 25, 2012

It blows my mind that a woman as talented as Ike might struggle with any endeavour she might undertake.  But she hits the nail on the head when she states that we are all different.  Each one of us offers this community something unique.  It's all about perspective.  What is awesome to one person may be mediocre to another and vice versa.  We all see things differently.  We are all individuals with our own unique take on the world and there is room for all our voices.  Ike also touches on the idea of growth.  I have to keep reminding myself that while I've been creating in some capacity for quite a long time, I'm relatively new to this area of design.  I've been making cards almost exactly a year and it has been less than 8 months that I've started using the medium of markersI'm also brand new at using a tablet and pen to create drawings--a very different process from using pencil and paper.  So, I promise that I've been trying really hard to stop comparing my work with others, especially those who have been at it for years.  It is important that I measure my growth only against my self.  It is difficult, but I am trying.  The one thing that I will continue to do is keep looking at what is already out there. learn from others and do my very best to grow in my own way and in my own time.

Honourable mentions include:
  • Hi there Lisa - I loved reading this post, and the rest of your blog looks fantastic. I'm going to come back later when I can sit down with a cuppa and have a good read of all your posts. I wanted to say thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a lovely comment, it made my day and has probably made my week too - thank you again. Also, I agree with you about the world being smaller on cyber world. Fantastic isn't it. I'm going to become a follower too :0) Have a great day ! Michelle on Sunday Spotlight: December 2, 2012
  • Well it's mutual Lisa. Your blog really touches us and inspire us! Thank you so much for doing this.  Vicky F. AKA Crafting Vicky on Sunday Spotlight: December 2, 2012
  • Lisa, I just finished reading this post, as it is by far my favorite one you do each week. And, something just dawned on me. Whether you meant to or not, you do this posting every week on a day of faith for many of us. I hope I don't offend anyone else out there. But, I am starting to believe that you are an angel brought to us from above. Your words continue to be so profound and you reach into the hearts of so many of us. You inspire and you encourage always. With that little extra sparkle that is called "hope". Many of us come back day by day, week by week, and soon month by month because you have that unbelievable ability to make us happy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Hugs, Sue on Sunday Spotlight: December 2, 2012
  • I have come across your blog from a link on Ike's. I had donated to Jess and Eddie for the very reason that she is so generous with her freebies and it felt wrong to take but not give something back in return when she desperately needs our help. The emotional turmoil of the situation is bad enough for her and Eddie, but adding this extra financial burden is even worse. Lisa, I am truly grateful to have found you, you seem like such a lovely warm and giving person, a very rare thing these days. Have a fabulous day ! Love Mandy xxx on Saturday Showcase: November 17, 2012
Please know how truly difficult it is each and every week for me to choose just one comment to highlight.  So many of you have left such beautiful comments that have touched me deeply and I truly appreciate each and every one of them and each and every one of you!
Like the Saturday showcase, the Sunday Spotlight will be also be on hiatus until after the holidays.  Please be sure to come back and check out the next spotlight at the beginning of January. However, I'm not going away completely.  I'll still be around completing other posts and there are more holiday hand outs to be had throughout the rest of December, so please come back and see me tomorrow.

Until next time,
