The 12 Days of Christmas Quest: Day Six

Hello and happy Wednesday to you! Just two more sleeps until a brand new year!

It is the sixth day of Christmas and it is time to continue the quest. If you missed day one click HERE to start from the beginning and read all the details.

Day two: click HERE
Day three: click HERE
Day four: click HERE
Day five: click HERE

As a quick refresher, each day during the 12 Days of Christmas (Dec. 25th to Jan. 5th), you're going to be given a task to follow. I'll be asking you questions to find out how the pandemic has impacted your life over the last year--how it has affected you, what things you've had to do differently, how you've had to adjust your life--that kind of idea. You will be able to leave your daily answer in a comment on the post for each respective day. If you follow the instructions for each day, you'll earn a free digital paper.

Since this is a busy time of year for most people, you will have plenty of time to complete the quest. It is completely up to you as to when you submit your answers (daily, all at once at the end, or otherwise). AS LONG AS ALL your TASKS are submitted, no later than January 12th, 2021, then you will qualify to receive the paper(s) for whichever day(s) you participate.

Here is the paper up for grabs today...

This paper is 3600 x 3600 pixels, in jpg format and published at 300 dpi. Credits include: Guppic the duck (via Creative Fabrica) and Julie Campbell Designs (via DesignBundles). In the zip folder that will be emailed should you successfully complete the quest, you will find a copy of the paper, its preview sheet, the credit information and my terms of use which are standard to all my folders.

Play along each of the 12 days and you'll earn yourself the full set! So, how about we get started with today's task?!!

On the sixth day of Christmas,
it is time to earn paper number six.
Play along today and you'll get to add
another free digital paper to the mix!!!

Task:
The positive in any situation can be found if you look deep enough. What three positive things have you learned about yourself during this past year? OR, What are three positive things that have come out of the last year for you?

For myself, I'm choosing three positive things I've learned:
  1. I have learned that I am more resilient than I thought. I can easily become anxious and this past year has certainly caused a lot of anxiety. However, I have survived it and have realized I'm a bit stronger than I thought.
  2. With production lines being greatly reduced, I am learning to make do without certain items or learning how to substitute. Again, something that I might stress about in the past, I am learning to accept.
  3. I am learning that I am one person and only capable of doing so much. I used to stress greatly if I was running behind or people were relying on me for certain things by a certain date. While it still bothers me if I'm running late, I'm learning to not be so hard on myself. I just have to do the best I can and accept it.

When you come up with a response for today's task, simply leave your response in a comment on THIS POST. Now for many of you, especially those who have played in previous years, the odds are that I should have your e-mail address in order to send out the free paper you earn. If you are new to the quest or are not sure whether I might have your email address, please be sure to also leave your email address in your comment. If you would prefer to keep your address private, then check out the bottom paragraph from Day 1 for how to send it to me.

Hope this Wednesday brings you peace & joy! See you all tomorrow for day number seven!!!

Cheers!

This has been a very mixed year for me but concentrating on the positives:
1. With shops being closed for a period of time and the uncertainty that followed, I have found that I can do without certain things. The positive being that finances are not as much of a struggle.
2. With having to wear face masks earlier in the year, I discovered that they are a much better preventer to hayfever flaring up than any medications
3. When your children in their twenties can't go out and are stuck at home you get much more communication from them!

Hmmmmmm...This is one that takes a lot of thought.....
1. I have learned that I had too much pride, and as a result I have become more humble.
2. Because of limited supplies in stores, some of the things that I considered "things I had to have", I found that I could do without. That caused me to be more appreciative of what I DID have.
3. I also realized that there are things that are beyond my control and there is no reason to get anxious or be overcome with fear. I have become more tolerant of people and situations, knowing that I am right where God wants me and that there is a reason for everything.

Three positive things that have come from 2020
#1. I definitely don't worry about what I look like when I go out to the store! Seems the mask merits no make up and sweats are fine! So absolutely no vanity!
#2. I'm sure we've helped the environment with fewer trips into town, fewer loads of laundry, etc.
#3. My overall health is probably better not being out with other people. I've gotten more sleep and eaten healthier foods...However, I've cooked a lot more and therefore...well, that's not a positive so I won't go there! hahaha

Some positives for me this year:

I reconnected through Zoom with a groups of people that I spent lots of time with when I was in my teens. I belonged to the Third Order of St. Francis as I was growing up and I reconnected with the group and we meet weekly now. It's been so inspiring.

A corollary from the first positive is that I've grown in my prayer life and feel closer to God. I have a long way to go in my relationship with God but I've made the first step.

Being stuck at home with my retired husband hasn't been easy but we are beginning to get our footings with one another again. When we had kids at home as a buffer it seemed easier to get along. Now that we are totally by ourselves it's been more challenging.

1. I have really worked on my anxiety this year and creating peace. This has helped me so much to deal with this situation, not stressing about the past or future, just keeping myself grounded and not overthinking. It has been so valuable and kept me in the now. For the first time in my life I am truly content.

2. I am so very happy with my hubby. We have spent so much time together over the past year and still really happy in each other's company.

3. Grateful for the mostly positive people in the crafting community who have been there to support people when they have felt down and needed a boost. The internet has given us the ability to stay in contact with one another no matter where they are in the world.

Extra - In the UK almost all the country has gone into a much stricter lockdown. We were going to go for a day trip to the seaside on Saturday and I was a bit down about it because for pretty much the first time we had made a plan and it has been cancelled. Just found out that neighbour over the road who was in hospital with Covid passed away last night. Grateful that this has enabled me to put in perspective the very reason why we need to sacrifice these things to protect those that need it.

Happy New Year Lisa and to Everyone who reads this. Keep fighting the good fight, keep safe and well. I think we still have a good few months where things may get worse before they get better but truly hope the sacrifices are worth it and we will all get out the other side.

Love Mandy xxx

In all the bad of 2020, I found so much good.

1. People, family and neighbors checking in on myself more and each other. Talking via the phone over texting back and forth.

2. I've been trying to increase my reading of books more, and learn new techniques. I have a new way to relax now kicking back reading over watching TV.

3. I found that yes, if I take my time, think, try not to stress....I can sew things even if its the smallest and easiest patterns, it is an accomplishment for me.

Happy Health 2021 to all, hugs, Lori m

It's a difficult task, but I have:
1. I learned that by working on-line, I can also convey good energy to my clients.
2. It turned out that I can cope with every difficult situation and I can count on several people and on my beloved husband.
3. I can motivate myself to exercise, even though I do not like it, and I exercise 5 times a week.
Happy New Year

2. I have excepted that I am not able to do everything I used to routinely do like go to the movies once a week, go to the casino

That is a tough one, I spent many days unable to do much do to depression, not being able to run to the store to get out of the house did not help. I suffer from chronic pain and anxiety so it's rough being forced to stay in the house. Thankfully, I have crafting to keep my mind occupied when I can get up and work on things.

Hmmm. Let me think: I have learned it's OK to lean on others. I've learned the beauty of solitude. I've learned that watching too much news isn't a good thing!

Super cute paper! Ok, here we go...
1. I realized I have no issues with social isolation. While others were freaking out about not being able to see their friends and family, I did fine. I think I'm at an age where I am finally comfortable in my own skin, with my own thoughts. I still texted with friends, or had phone calls, but I never needed to resort to Zoom or Skype to feel connected. Sometimes being alone is actually enjoyable!
2. I learned that I don't want to be reliant on our delicate food supply chain. I grew a garden for the first time, and found I loved it. It is very satisfying to eat something you grew from seed, raised til maturity, harvested, and cooked. Next garden season I am ramping up production.
3. I've been hankering for simpler days, and I learned that spending time gardening, learning to can food, and working with my hands brings a sense of accomplishment, an antidote to depression, and a sense of accomplishment. I sleep better on days I've been working outside than days I spend with 8+ hours of screen time. While that time can be beneficial too, I learned I need to balance that time better with more physical tasks.

I realised there are so many things which I previously felt were essentials are really not!
I did a lot more walking than usual and lost more than a stone in the process - so healthier and fitter!
Also realised how kind and helpful people are. We are very isolated but a couple of people from the village were always helpful in oollecting my husband's medications etc. We also have a public path pass close to our property and have seen and chatted with many more people than usual - socially distanced of course.
I actually found the year passed so quickly!!

Good question ...

1. I am far stronger, mentally and emotionally, than I ever gave myself credit for. Dealing with my mom and then her estate after she passed helped with that.

2. I have worked out a plan to decrease the chaos of my own life/home which includes daily reflections and truthful purging of stuff.

3. Last but not least, the BEST thing to come out of 2020 is that my daughter got married. Although they eloped, I understand why they did it. He's a great guy and they compliment each other. I am thrille for them both.

What three positive things have you learned about yourself during this past year? OR, What are three positive things that have come out of the last year for you?

1. Well, I sound like a broken record, but the most positive thing for me personally is the further deepening of my marital bond, which I always knew was good, just learned this year that it may be bottomless. So grateful and thankful.
2. I've begun to learn about setting personal boundaries in my friendships. Always did it fine in romance and work, but never with friends. It's like a light's been switched on and I can see.
3. It's been a blessing to see my daughter and son-in-law flourish in their marriage. Their wedding was 2-1-20 just before COVID hit and our worlds changed. They've been quarantined together for a year almost and are doing well.
