Holiday Handout: Day 14

Did you know that the Christmas tree was originally decorated with edible food items such as apples, nuts and dates?  Then, in the 18th, century people began to illuminate their trees with candles, which of course were later replaced with the electric Christmas lights that we so often see adorning trees these days.  Today, our Christmas trees are decorated with a wide variety of traditional ornaments, garland, and tinselSometimes we even find candy canes on the trees representing a nice throwback to the original items of food. Often we find our trees topped with an angel or star to represent the host of angels or the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity.  What does your Christmas tree look like?  Do you follow the customs of old?  Do you add new ornaments each year?  Are they store bought or hand made?  Are there ornaments that your children or grandchildren have made put in a special place of honour on the tree?  Do you make the decorating of the tree a special occasion filled with fun, food, laughter and family?  Do you even have a tree?  If you celebrate Christmas, today take a moment to think about your traditions as they relate to the Christmas tree.  I'm sure you'll find some happy memories all wrapped up in those thoughts.

The Christmas countdown continues...

Until next time,

Card Design: Christmas Card Panic Continues

Okay, the husband is fed, the rest of the Christmas decorations (well the ones we've decided on anyways) have been put up, and two and one-half more cards have been created.  That is a total of six.  Woo-hoo.  Here is number two.  This one is even more simple than the first one.

The curse of my inability to make anything straight hits again.  Neither my ribbon, nor my sentiment inside are as straight as I wanted them.  I can measure three times and still end up crooked.  I tell you someone put a curse on me a long time ago ensuring that I see the world through unbalanced eyes.  And yes, all connotations of unbalanced certainly apply to me.

Here are the details.  I hope I haven't forgotten anything...
  • Image of the tree is a sticker from my stash picked up last Christmas at Dollarama.  The tree has green and red in it and the ribbon of course is red fulfilling a colour element for one of the challenges.
  • To fulfill the requirements of one of the challenges, "use a star", this image has one on the top of the tree.
  • Paper:  The base is from another card set I got at Dollarama(R) awhile back so it is from my stash as well.
  • The sentiment inside is also from a year old stash of rub-ons I also got at Dollarama(R).  I also classify the inside sentiment as a scrap because it was one of a few items left over to use on the aforementioned rub-on transfer sheet.  Although it doesn't really look it, the sentiment is also green fulfilling another challenge element.
  • One of the challenges asked for metalic of some sort.  While it may be difficult to see the ribbon has gold metalic on the edges.  The ribbon also counts as a scrap for the challenge.  I had cut some ribbon awhile back and didn't use it so it went into my 'ribbon bits' container and I used it up on this card.
I have entered this card into the following challenges:
Thanks so much for stopping by and don't forget to leave some love if you have the time.

Until next time,

Holiday Handout: Day 1

We are soooooo close to Christmas, I can almost hear the sound of reindeer hoofs on the rooftop and smell the wonderful fragrances of Christmas time.  It may still be 15 days away but those days are going to fly by much too fast for my liking.  So today I present you with a holiday handout.  I don't know exactly how many there will be so come back often to find new goodies posted as we lead up to that magical day.

Today's goody should come out roughly 3.5 in. by 3.5 in. if brought up in Photoshop or in Microsoft Publisher.  For some reason in Inkscape (the program I use to create my digital designs until I learn how to use Photoshop Essentials) it comes out as being almost 12 in. by 12 in.  Actually, when I import it into the blog and choose original size it also shows up super huge.  I honestly don't understand why the pixels of the image enlarge so much when I save it as 300 dpi.  The original design stays small but the exported png breeds exponentially.   However, that is what happens when you don't have a background in digital design and fly by the seat of your pants hoping that what you create will turn out all right somehow by the grace of God and a little luck thrown in.  Sorry, bit of a run-on sentence going on there.  Just out of curiosity, when you import the images that you download from this blog into the programs you use, are they super big too?  If anyone knows of some great sites where they have easy to understand tutorials for Photoshop Elements, I'd love to know.  Just drop me a comment or an email.  I'd be ever so thankful.

So, now for your goody:

Hope someone out there can put it to use.
