Promotional Post: Scribble Doodle Designs Launches Today!!!

It has been awhile in the making, but I am so very thrilled to finally announce that Scribble Designs and Décosse's Dynamite Doodles have paired up to bring you a collaborative new effort called....
 wait for it....

Listen to what our readers have been saying...
"Oh my goodness!  I can't wait to see what they come up with!"  --C.

"About bloody time these two got together!"  --J.

"I'm so excited!  I love the work of each of these ladies separately so I know that what they come up with as a duo will simply be brilliant!!!"  --P.

Okay, okay, so I made all these comments up but someone, somewhere could be thinking this, right?!  A girl's got to have dreams!!!!

Through this collaborative effort we plan on bringing you a variety of digital goodies to choose from as I, Lisa, will take Sandy's fabulous existing digital images and turn them into digital papers and other goodies for your scrapbooking pleasure.  We'll also be offering other digital designs as part of some Mini Mash-Ups.

Right now we are pleased to introduce our first set called 'Sizzlin' Summer'.  We've been teasing you with bits of it this past month but it is finally time to unveil the paper set.

For just $2.99 you get all six wonderful digital papers in the set...

#DP 002 Sizzlin' Summer Patterned Papers Only
And, for just $1.00 more you can have not only the six patterned papers but also the six matching textured ones (or you can pay $1.99 to just purchase the textured set separately)...

#DP 003 Sizzlin' Summer Textured Papers Only
So that is a total of $3.99 for all 12 papers!

Each paper is 3600 x 3600 pixels (i.e. 12 inches) and published at 300 dpi.  If you are a card maker you can always resize any of the papers smaller without distorting the quality.  The patterned papers were created using six different Scribble Designs Images.  Each watermark is linked to its location in the store:

Promotional Post: August New Releases Over at Fresh Brewed Designs

CLICK TO SEE OUR NEW DIGIS! Aug. 4 Digi Release
In case you missed it, Monday, August 4th, saw the release of a whole new line of images. If you haven't seen them yet, you are in for quite the 'tail'!

Once upon a time...in a land far, far away (at least for those of us living in North America anyway)...
There lived a small pod of merfolk in the Red Sea off the coast of Asia. You see, it has been said that the Red Sea, happens to have the warmest waters of all Earth's oceans so it is the perfect location for merfolk to live.

This story was passed on to me through an inquisitive sailor who once came across this pod of mystical creatures.  He had been lost at sea for over a week so no one believed his tall tale.  One of the merfolk that rescued him had just recently had an anniversary and so to pass the time as they helped guide the sailor to dry land, he told the sailor about his beautiful wife and family.  When the sailor was found, nary a person believed him.  Even though this merman had shared pictures of his family with the sailor, the mainland population all figured that he had just hallucinated the event and doctored up some pictures because of course, it is widely believed that mermaids and mermen do not exist.  However, I personally do believe in the magical unseen worlds that co-exist with us humans and I'd like to share this story with all of you.

In the community of Havenpond, resides a pod of merfolk.  The leader of Havenpond happens to be the wonderfully joyful Merlin Tailby.   Merlin has been a resident of this small community since he was no bigger than a tadpole.  He grew up in Havenpond, found his great love there and raised his children there as well.  He is very proud of this community and is a natural born leader.  Today I am going to focus on the story of how he met his now wife Myrtle and introduce you to the family that they have raised together.  Now remember, I did hear this second hand from a man who had been lost at sea, so some of the details may be a bit fuzzy.

This story begins with with a young merman in his early twenties.  After graduating from the University of Gillcrest in the nearby community of Coral Cove, Merlin Tailby came back home to put his degree in Marine Biology to work.  When Merlin and some of the other graduates that year came back home, there was a party in the local community centre called Trident Hall to honour the group of graduates and their accomplishments.  Now as Merlin has always been a bit shy with the mermaids, he didn't have a date.  In fact, Merlin isn't alone in that trait.  It is a well known fact among the merfolk that men are much shyer than their female counterparts.  However, Merlin's brother Fineas, seemed to be fairing better with his shyness as he had shown up with a very beautiful mermaid named Myrtle.  Now shy or not, Merlin just couldn't keep his eyes off of Myrtle that evening.  Thankfully, Fineas and Myrtle were just friends because as it turns out, Myrtle was rather drawn to Merlin as well.  Once Merlin finally got up the nerve to approach her, they spent the remainder of that night in each other's company and every day after that for the next six months.  It was at that time that Merlin decided to propose to Myrtle and I am pleased to say that they have been happily married now for over 25 years.   They have been through thick and fin, oops I mean thin, but their love for each other has always stayed constant.  Recently they had portraits done for each other to commemorate their anniversary (Merlin very generously shared copies of these images plus more with the sailor, who of course passed them on to me).
http://www.freshbreweddesigns.com/item_1024/Merlin-merman.htmhttp://www.freshbreweddesigns.com/item_1025/Myrtle--mermaid.htm
Merlin and Myrtle went on to have four beautiful daughters.  Two of them are rather outgoing and the other two are a bit shy and don't really like to have their pictures taken so we'll just have to do with the images that we were provided with.

The baby of the family is Marisol.  She is a lovely young girl about the age of 16.  She is definitely a little shy among strangers but like all youngest children, she is still babied by her parents and older siblings and will continue to be for the remainder of all time.   Marisol is rather charming when she wants to be and is well liked by her close circle of friends.  She is also very artistic and has an affinity for making jewellery.  Since baubles and accessories are prized items in the mermaid culture she will have a strong career ahead of her.  Once she graduates high school she is headed to the Laguna College of Art and Design.  She still has a year to go but she can't wait.

Oceane is the second youngest and is 18.  She is extremely confident and very social.  She tends to be the focus of any and all social situations.  Oceane's passion lies in hair and makeup and she is currently in her second year of cosmetology school.  She is attending Aphrodite Academy located in Conch Falls.  As this community is a few hours swim from home, she remains in the dormitory during the week and comes home on the weekends.  It is a good thing that she is a natural at the trade because when she is home, she is out swimming and hanging out with all of her friends.  Although she does make sure to spend a bit of time each of the days she is home with her family as well.

Then there is Memory.  Memory is also pretty shy.  At the age of twenty, she has decided that looking after the youngest members in the community is where her true passion lies.  Therefore, she is currently working in the local hatchery tending to all the baby fish, crustaceans and other sea creatures that have recently been born.  She is also a bit of a day dreamer and spends long hours just sitting and staring out to sea.  She is avidly interested in the worlds beyond her own.  Thus, when her father told her the story of how he met up with the lost sailor, she listened intently to his words.  These days, she spends time looking for her own sailor to rescue.  Yes, she is definitely the dreamer of the family.
http://www.freshbreweddesigns.com/item_1023/Memory--mermaid.htm

Finally, that brings us to Drema who is the oldest child at the age of 22.  Like all her sisters she is very beautiful.  She tends to be a bit of a perfectionist and is definitely a high achiever.  She is currently enrolled in Gillcrest and she plans on following in her father's footsteps by becoming a Marine Biologist as well.  She plans on staying in Havenpond.  Also like her father, being a contributing member to her community is very important to her.  In fact, she will be graduating in just a couple of weeks and as tradition dictates, will be honoured in a party at Trident Hall, just like her father was.  But you see, there is a secret that Drema has been keeping.  In her heart there is someone that she has been attracted to for some time now but has been to shy too meet him.  He will be attending the Trident Hall event and she is hoping that she'll finally get up enough nerve to approach him.
So, there you go. Four beautiful daughters and a lovely wife.  Merlin has a wonderful family indeed and he is very proud of each and every one of them.  He is always bragging about them to anyone who will listen so it is fortuitous that he was the one to find the sailor as it gave him one more opportunity to talk about his amazing family.

But our story doesn't stop there.  For you see there is another shy merman in this community who will also be graduating and honoured during the same graduating class as Drema.  His name is Marinus and he is rumoured to be a descendent of the Greek god Triton himself and thus there is no stronger lineage that he could have.  He will graduating with a combined degree in Marine Biology and Business and plans to be actively involved in the politics around town.  In fact, he has been apprenticing with Merlin for the last year and Merlin has become rather fond of him.   Marinus also has a secret.  He has been very taken with Drema for the past little while.  Of course he thinks it is a secret but anyone who sees him looking at Drema, knows instantly how he is feeling (which is why Merlin was able to include this in his discussion with the sailor).
Will the fates shine upon Marinus during the upcoming graduation party?  Will he finally get up the courage to ask Drema out?  Considering Drema's secret crush is on Marinus, the odds are good that these two are meant for each other.  Will their path together begin that night at the party, just like her parents did so long ago?  Well, we'll just have to wait and see, won't we!

It is up to you whether or not you believe this tail, oops I mean tale.  We are surrounded by an incredible world filled with beauty and mysticism and there are many areas yet to be discovered.  Who's to say that there aren't magical realms out there as well.  I believe in the possibilities, do you?

Let your imagination take you away to a new and interesting world.  Each of the images in this new collection would be suitable for a variety of occasions.  As always, you are only limited by your creative thinking.

Be sure to go and check all of the new merfolk related images available in the Fresh Brewed Designs store.  You can find them all in the Mermaids and Fairies section.  Clicking HERE will take you to that section.   Or, you can click on any one of the individual images to go directly to their spot in the store.
I'll leave you today with this final word:  Maluhia.  Among its definition are the words peace and serenity.  May your days always be filled with peace in your heart and serenity in your soul.

Maluhia everyone!

At Fresh Brewed Designs we always have a fresh pot of creativity brewing. So stop by and join us for a cuppa whenever you want!

Until next time,

Card Design: Pattie's Creations Challenge #97...Monochromatic

http://pattiescreationschallenge.blogspot.ca
Happy Friday everyone!  It is time to announce the next challenge over at Pattie's Creations Design Challenge.  This time around for Challenge #97, the theme for the next two weeks is Monochromatic.  While this can be a tough one sometimes to work around, the results can end up beautiful.  Remember that when creating a card with a monochromatic colour scheme, not only can you use your main colour and shades of that colour but you can also use the bonus colours of black, white, and skin tones.

Here is my card, I hope that I haven't forgotten any important details:
General Information:
  • I had to think about this one for a while.  Then when I came across Pattie's beautiful wedding cake, I knew exactly what to do.  So for this card, I'm going with shades of pink as my main colour choice.  Okay so I have taken creative licence and coloured my leaves with a deep shade of pink but I think it still works.  Now I just have to hope that someone I know getting married REALLY likes the colour pink!

Digital Image Details:
  • Wedding Cake:  This is such a beautiful design.  I love the way the flowers are placed.  You can find it in Pattie's Etsy shop by clicking on the image name or watermark linked below.

Embellishments:
  • The paper roses are from a stash that my good friend Naomi sent me awhile back.
  • The ribbon and the little fabric heart are both Crafts brand and were purchased at Dollarama.

Card Design: August New Releases at Fresh Brewed Designs

It is time for some brand new release from Fresh Brewed Designs.  This time around we're hitting the beach and visiting with some magical mermaids.  I'll be back on Friday to introduce you to the whole new collection but for today, I'm going to show you the creation I made with the image called, Maluhia.  If you click on the watermark, it will open up the home page over at FBD where you can find this cool mermaid tail and all the rest of the new releases...

http://www.freshbreweddesigns.com
This digi release will continue on until Saturday.  Heather has an event page set up over on Facebook.  Click HERE to join in on all the fun.

Here are my card and details.  I hope I haven't forgotten anything important...

General Information:
  • Thanks to Heather, I found out that Maluhia, a word derived from the Hawaiian language, means peace, serenity, calmness, quiet, etc.  As I glanced at the digi and thought about the definition, it finally came to me.  This would make a perfect, if untraditional, condolences card.   Inspired with that in mind, this is what I came up with.

FRONT
Digital Image Details:
  • Mahulia: Part of the new release collection of Mermaids coming out today. This is such a unique image and I had fun playing around with it.  You can find all the new releases over at the store right now by clicking HERE.
    • This image was coloured in digitally and then printed out.  Now since the sandbank that the mermaid is on is underwater, it took me some time to figure out how to colour it.  I decided the best thing to do would be to overlay it with the water but make it transparent so you can see the sand underneath.  It might look a little odd to some but I am hoping that it looks okay for the most part and actually looks like what it is supposed to. Digital credits include:
      • Cloud and water patterns courtesy of Webtreats, Etc.
      • Sand is a layer style from Sheila Reid, purchased at Pixel Scrapper.
      • The lower body of the mermaid was digitally paper pieced using a scanned version of the paper I used on the inside.
      • The tail colours were added digitally as well.
      • Then I added some shading to all the different elements to help give it a bit of depth.
Digital Sentiment Details:
  • I added the word Mahulia to the front of the card before printing it out.

INSIDE

Digital Sentiment Details:
  • Both of the sentiments on the inside have been designed by me. The colours were matched to the designer paper that was used on the inside.
  • Now since I figured the recipient wouldn't understand the meaning behind the card, I added the definition to the inside right hand side.  Hopefully, this isn't weird and will help the person understand the meaning.

OVERALL
Paper Products:
  • Image and sentiment base: Michael's Recollection's Cardstock, white.
  • Card base, matting and extra pieces on the inside right: Crafts Brand Cardstock, brown -- purchased at Dollarama
  • The paisley paper is from the Recollection's Paisley and Damask Paper Pad.

Card Design: Scribbles Designs Challenge #19 Midway Point

The weekend is almost upon us.  I can't believe how fast this week has zoomed by.  Unfortunately, I didn't get half of what I needed to, accomplished.  Thankfully though, I did finish up my card for the midway of the latest Scribbles Designs Challenge.

There are two whole weeks left for you to come on over and enter. In case you've missed it, the theme this month for Challenge #19, is Sea, Sand & Surf.  Right now, North America is experiencing the lazy days of summer. Just think...cool waters, splashing in the waves, and sand castles.  Ahh...there is nothing like a lazy day at the beach.  So, for this challenge we want to see your projects with sea, sand, surf or any of the wonderful symbols associated with beach time.  Surf's up, will you catch the wave?

Entering is super simple!  You do not need to use a Scribbles Designs image; however, if you do, your name gets entered into the draw twice.  You can purchase your Scribbles Designs images HERE or you can also find one for a limited time on the challenge blog HERE.  Also, be sure to check out our special Freebie Friday posts as it is another great way to build your Scribbles Designs collection.  You can find the rest of the rules and information regarding winners in the sidebar on the challenge blog.  You have until 9pm PST on August 14th to come over and play with us.

For this card, I've decided to use Brrr's wonderful buddy Burt!  Burt is such a cutie pie and definitely deserves a spotlight all his own.  In fact I've created a special paper featuring Burt that will be released shortly when Sandy and I unveil the start of our collobaration called Scribble Doodle Designs.  In this project I've used one of the textured papers from our Sizzlin' Summer set and of course Burt all on his own.  Click on the name or watermark below to take you to its location in the store.

http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca/2013/09/221-burt-250.html

Here are my card and details, I hope I haven't forgotten anything...

General Information:
  • I REALLY, REALLY want to start making some clean and simple cards (CAS).  I just think they have a slick look that I'd like to be able to pull off in some of my work.  I've been casing A LOT of CAS sketches lately and hope to start adding the CAS look to my repertoire soon.  I think that this one turned out pretty half decent and definitely qualifies for the CAS look.
FRONT
Digital Image Details:
  • Burt: Information for how to obtain this image is included above.
    • I brought this image into Photoshop Elements and coloured it digitally.  Then printed it and fussy cut it.
Digital Sentiment Details:
  • I created a banner shape by editing a banner template I have from Pixel Scrapper and recoloured it.  I then added the text on top of it.  This was also fussy cut and then added to the top of the card.
Embellishment:
  • The button came from a collection I bought at the Dollar Tree.
Punch:
  • I used a Fiskars punch for the waves.  I made three different ones to give the 'water' some depth.  Making the middle one a different shade of blue helped to give it some differentiation.

INSIDE
Digital Sentiment Details:
  • This great sentiment was created by Paulette from Create with TLC.  Click HERE to go to Paulette's blog and HERE to go to the store.
Digital Paper:
  • As mentioned above, the digital paper I used on the inside of the card is from our new Scribble Doodle Designs, Sizzlin' Summer Textured Papers pack.  We'll be launching this collection along with the Patterned Papers pack, real soon!
OVERALL
Paper Products:
  • Card, image, sentiment and digital paper base bases: Michael's Recollection's Cardstock, white.
  • The waves were made from two different blue pieces from Michael's Recollection's Cardstock, Cool Water Collection.
Challenges I am hoping to enter...
http://buyscribblesdesigns.blogspot.ca
So put on those thinking caps and design a project that fits our Sea, Sand & Surf theme. If you need some images to help you out you can check out all wonderful ones that are in the Scribbles store (you can click the image above to head there now).  Remember there is still two weeks left to enter at the Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog, so I hope to see you there. If you have some time, I invite you to go and check out the wonderful inspiration offered up from my colleagues on the DT.  With so many possible projects to create, the ideas are boundless.  We always look forward to seeing what you come up with for each month's theme!
