Card Design: Digi Darla's Challenge #80--Anything Goes with Optional Twist: Hop, Skip & a Jump

Good morning everyone!  It is time for the latest challenge over at the dazzling Digi Darla's Challenges Blog. This week for Challenge #80 the theme is "Anything Goes with an Optional Twist: Hop, Skip and a Jump".  This week, Emily came up with the optional twist of Hop, Skip and a Jump.  What gets you up in the air?  We'd love to see your take on the twist although remember it is completely optional.

As always, one person will be the lucky winner of FIVE Digi Darla (DD) images!  AND any entries using a DD image get entered into a SECOND drawing for THREE images. So, you could technically win eight images!  If you do use one of Kim's wonderful images make sure you let us know by writing DD after your name when you enter.

I've used the following Digi Darla's digi in my project this week:

Here are the card and details, I hope I haven't forgotten anything...

General Comments:
  • This week I took the opportunity to use the awesome anything goes option to create a card that I needed to work on.  There are two special little girls in our lives, although now I suppose I should be referring to them as young ladies since they are 11 and 13.  Well both these sweet angels are into soccer in a big way.  I created a soccer card for them last year (which I've yet to show off on my blog) and once again this year I wanted to do something special to mark their soccer season.  I only made one card for the two of them last year and found out that mom cut it in half so they could each have a part for their memory albums.  So, this year I decided to make the commemorative project into something that would fit easily into an album that would simply be one sided.  Now I don't know whether to call what I made cards or tags.  Maybe they are a combination of both.  One was created for this DT post and the other to use a digi I've had for awhile from another artist.
  • As you now know, the twist this week is 'Hop, Skip & a Jump'.  So here is how I'm making the twist fit my creation:
    • I don't know about you, but when I think of soccer I can easily see the players, hop, skipping and jumping all over the field pursuing the soccer ball.  Hey, it works for me!
  • I really hope the girls will be pleased with their 'card/tags' this year...

PROJECT

Digital Images:
  • Soccer Girl:  You can find this sporty young lady in the DD store by clicking on the image name or watermark linked above.  The image was fussy cut and layered over top the soccer ball.
  • The image of the soccer ball is from Kate Pullen an artist who hosts Rubber Stamping at About.com.  You can find the soccer ball by clicking HEREThe image was fussy cut and layered over top the base I created.
Other Details:
  • I knew that I wanted to add something to acknowledge the year.  So I came up with the idea of a tag.  I just didn't know how I was going to add the numbers.  I wasn't sure whether to go with simple stamping or with using the Cricut.  Then I saw Karon from Karon's Krafty Korner's latest art journal page and was presented with the perfect idea.  For her journal page she stamped out her letters and cut them out into individual squares.  She took it a step further and went over them with some distress inks but I couldn't do that step since I don't have any, so I just inked up the edges.  You should check out her cool journal page by going HERE once you are done checking out my post.  Karon is an incredible creator and showcases amazing projects.  I adhered them to the tag, attached the tag to the soccer ball and voila, JuJu will always know the year this card/tag was made for.
  • I used an Inkadinkadoo stamp set for the numbers and cut the tag out with the Basic George cartridge from Cricut.
Embellishments:
  • The stars are Crafts brand from Dollarama.
  • The foam letters are from Michael's (sorry I threw the container away when I organized the letters into colours so I don't know the brand).
  • The ribbon is basic curling ribbon from my parcel-put-together stash.  Sorry that it looks a bit squashed.  That is the problem when you have to use a scanner.

OVERALL
Paper Products:

  • Card and tag base: Michael's open stock scrapbook paper.
  • Designer Paper:
  •  The soccerball and star paper is one I created for this project using Photoshop Essentials 5.  The image of the soccer ball that I used to create the paper is from Scrapbook Presentations.
Now as promised, here is the other project I created for JuJu's sister, JoJo (yes, these are nicknames).
Image Details:
  • This adorable young athlete is one of Mary Ellen's Dearie Doll Images.  I'm afraid that it is no longer available for free as it was on M.E.'s original free digital blog over at blog.com which has since been removed.  However, she has opened up a new blog here on blogspot and has tons of stamps available for free in both colour and black and white.  You can check out all her work HERE.
Other Details:
  • Other than the image switch out, the only other difference is in the colour choice of red.

So, why not come and show us what you've got by entering in our current challenge this week over at Digi Darla's Challenges?  While you are there please check out the wonderful creations from the rest of the design team.  We always look forward to seeing the delightful creations you come up with.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  As I've now added to my comment section, whether you are a regular, here for the first time or popping over in your official capacity as a DT member, please know how much I appreciate the words that you leave behind.  Your encouragement helps me to become a better designer.   I try my best to reply to your comments (when an email address is available) but that is getting more and more difficult as my plate fills up with new responsibilities, new roles, and new obligations.  If I don't get the opportunity to thank you personally, know that I don't take a single comment for granted. Thank you for your understanding.

Until next time,
