Time for a World Card Making Day Celebration!

Hello my wonderful friends, followers and readers!  Welcome to those of you stopping by for the first time!  I'm so glad that all of you are here to celebrate with me.

YaY!!!  After concern and worry that the Internet wouldn't come back in time for me to get this post out while it is still World Card Making Day, after a three hour outage, it is finally back.  I think it knew I would have been having a rather stern talk with it if it hadn't come back online!

I wasn't blogging yet when this occasion was celebrated last year but what a fabulous occasion to observe.  How wonderful to have a day that honours the creativity behind making handmade cards and the personal connection that they create between us and the people we send them to.  I love this idea!!!!  So without further ado, let's kick of World Card Making Day, Décosse's Dynamite Doodles style and you know what that means...PRESENTS

World Card Making Day 2012 Logo
According to the official website for World Card Making Day, this occasion was first observed on October 7, 2006.  It was founded by Paper Crafts magazine and started out being celebrated simply as National Card Making Day in the United States.  The initial celebration involved the Paper Crafts magazine audience only; however, there was such an incredible response from patrons worldwide that from that point on, the holiday became known as World Card Making Day . While it began as a way to bring card makers together to get a head start on the Christmas card making rush, it has developed into a day for anyone involved in the card making community to "unite and celebrate the connection and creativity that is the heart of card making." ("Holiday History," n.d., para 2)

Sounds like a worthwhile day to celebrate in my books!  So, let's bring on the presents, shall we?!

First off I have FIVE sentiments that I am offering as straight up freebies for everyone:

How is that for a start?!  Now I do have a little something extra planned, but this time you need to do some work yourself.  Since this celebration is all about our cards, I thought it would be nice to see one of your favourite cards that you created and posted about, from the last year.  I was going to ask you to share your favourite, but when I thought about it, I could never come up with an absolute favourite myself.  I have a range of cards that are my favourite and I am guessing that you do as well.  So, start scrolling through your old posts and find a card that you really, really like.  Come over here and link it up BUT you also have to leave me a comment on this post telling me WHY it is one of your favourites.  That isn't too difficult now is it?  Check out what you have a chance to win...

One grand prize of the following...

A COMPLETE MINI KIT with:
12 papers in it:  6 with ribbons and 6 without.

5 sentiments all in png format.
There will also be a...
  • second prize of all 12 papers.
  • third prize of the 6 curling ribbon papers.
  • fourth prize of the 6 solid papers.
  • fifth prize of the 5 sentiments.
Now for every 25 people that sign up, I'll add another set of prizes.  So that means if I manage to get 50 people linked, I'll offer up a total of 10 prize packages.  Can you imagine if I were to actually get 100 people on board?!  That would mean a total of 20 prize packages!!!

And there is more...
If you create a post letting your readers know what I'm doing so that they can sign up too, I'll automatically send you out a bonus kit of 6 curling ribbons.  If you do create a post you'll need to come and leave the link to it in the comment section so I have a way of knowing how to get there.

Now hmm...which card should I post as one of my favourites.  Oh man, there are quite a few that I have been really happy with this year.  I guess the one I will go with is my very first round card that I created for a Digi Darla's post.  To refresh you on what it looked like, I have included it below...

Yes, definitely one of my favourites.  If you'd like to see the details for this card you can click HERE to go to the original post.

Okay, now it is your turn, I want to see one of your favourite cards.  You must link up your choice below in order to have a chance at winning one of the a fore mentioned  prizes.  Remember, you don't need to create anything new, just link up a post from sometime during the past year.  You do however, need to come back and leave me a comment letting me know why you chose this card as being one of your fondest.  Don't forget, anyone who publishes a quick post telling people what I'm up to and linking to this post will AUTOMATICALLY get the bonus curling ribbon embellishments.  Each ribbon is a separate png image.

This link up (scroll down to the very bottom of the page) will be open until 11:59 p.m. on October 19th and winners will chosen shortly thereafter.  This is one of those rare times where backlinking is allowed.  You can link up a maximum of three of your favourite cards.  However, if you do not provide a comment telling me why you linked your choice(s) you will NOT be eligible to win a prize.  It doesn't have to be too long but it does have to explain your reasoning for choosing.  You do not have to be a follower but it would be nice for you to become one, if you decided you like it over here.

So what are you waiting for?!  Get choosing and I hope to see you back here soon.

Until next time,

Those are some fabulous freebies! Thank you so much for doing this. But this being said you are quite cruel... making us choose one of our babies out of the entire lot of them lol Finally made my choice for Step aside Barbie because I really love that sentiment and I had finally figured out how to use it on a card. The steampunk look came through for me and I really love how it turned out.

I have my blog post here:
http://craftysuze.blogspot.co.nz/2013/10/world-cardmaking-day.html

I have included why I chose each one in that post.

Briefly though - #1 is using my favourite paper. I love the way the bling brings out the paper even more in this card.
#2 - the only paper pieced card I'm actually really pleased with.
#3 - the time a concept in my head actually turned out as well or better than it was in my head. If I had to pick just one favourite then this one would be it.

This card was a little different for me at the time I made it. When looking at the image I felt Believe In yourself was what it was saying. Everyone needs encouragement from time to time, even me.
Lisa, Thank you so much for the sentiments. I love those papers up above. That is such an adorable card. Edwina Brown

Hi Lisa, I have made a little post on my blog about your post and told everyone about it. So hopefully you will get a chance to have a look and like what you see. lol I have put a few of my makes online and the reasons that I like the card. I couldn't see the link for me to put it onto your blog. It was there and then it wasn't. Hugs, Jen xx

Hi Lisa, the card that I finally got showing was the very first card that I used Pan Pastels on. I enjoyed using them as they are very versatile in the way that you can use them. Make a mistake, rub it out and start again. I just love using them. Hugs, Jen x

Hi, Lisa, how nice of you to do this and offer such wonderful prizes - thank you! This was a very hard thing to do - I love all my cards (well, not all - I have some bad ones, but we won't speak of those). Anyway, I ended up choosing two Xmas cards and an anniversary card.

Entry #8 - I love how this turned out. I prefer old-fashioned stamping to digis any day, and the embossing and the glittery gold paper just make me smile. I think CAS would be my preferred style but I don't seem to do CAS that often, go figure.

Entry #9 - I love everything about this. I love the kitties - again, it's a rubber stamp - I love the shiny red panel, the snowflakes, just love it!

Entry #10 - Again, this was hand-stamped and I tried a new technique here. I was so pleased with how it turned out. Love the embossing, love the ribbon, the die cuts, butterfly, dew drops -everything about it. I gave this card to my friend and her husband for their anniversary a couple weeks ago, and they loved it too.

Thanks for the opportunity to "show off" my favourite cards.

My entry no.11 is one of my favourites as the colours turned out totally different than I visualised, but loved how it turned out. The mushrooms also symbolised the strength of a father to me.

My entry no.12 was one of the cards with the most comments this year on my blog. And I can see why most of my lovely Followers could relate to it. It is such a light and cheerful creation, which puts a smile on your face.

My second card I like it because It is different for me to go all out for Breast Cancer awareness. This year I have made 7. I have never made any before. For some reason I felt like I needed to get the message out there this year. It is almost like a mission for me. I can't explain it, I just know I am moved to do it. I have found out that even children male and female are getting breast cancer now. I love children and this breaks my heart. I want others to know that everyone needs to check themselves not just women. If I could make this terrible thing go away I would. Edwina Brown

I know I commented about my first 2 cards, but I don't see them here. Oh, well that is life.
#16 is my 3rd card. I like this because it was completely different too. The first thing I always want to do is get rid of the white on my card. When I took Oil painting classes I was told to get rid of the white canvas. To add color. Old habits die hard. This one was to be white on white. No other color. Oh, my was that a challenge, but one I ended up enjoying very much. It showed me not to be afraid to have white on my cards. Edwina Brown

I entered card #20 for a few reasons.
First it was the card from my very first post ever.
Second I had fun making not only a shape card but one with 3D elements, too.
Finally I was able to combine lots of techniques.

For my next card, #21, I entered one of my recently created cards. I chose this one for two reasons.
First because it was to honor my sweet Momma. She inspired me to be all that I can be.
And to be honest I just liked how it turned out. lol.

For my 3rd entry I picked a card with a little humor. It was a huge hit with my friends and they ordered them in multiple colors. I ended up making 20 of them. It was very heartwarming to have them enjoyed by so many people.
Thanks for the fun challenge. It was fun to look back and see how I have grown as a blogger since I first started.
