Card Design: Digi Darla's Challenges #49

It's Monday and that means it is time for another challenge over at the delightful Digi Darla's Challenges BlogThis week for Challenge #49 the theme is Be My Valentine.

This week one person will be the lucky winner of FIVE Digi Darla (DD) images!
AND any entries using a DD image get entered into a SECOND drawing for 3 images. So, you could technically win 8 images! That is great incentive to use one of Kim's fabulous digis.

This week I got to play with:

Think of my entry for week's theme as a non-traditional Valentine's card.  I think it is actually one of my favourites.

Here is the front of the card I am showcasing this week for our challenge...

Here is the inside...

Here are the card details, I hope I haven't forgotten anything...

  • General Comments: I am really pleased with how this card turned out.  The picture actually looks better too.  I used a tip from Laura, a fellow DDC team member, who herself just uses white cardboard and an extra light in order to take her pictures.  I found some appropriate items that would serve as my white base.  Now I just have to find a better light source.  My pics like my life are a work in progress.  Oh and I think that I've finally decided on a watermark I'm going to stick with.  As you have all seen, I've gone through a few different ideas now but I think this one is the best of the bunch.  What do you guys think?
  • Digi-Image: As mentioned above, the beautiful image I got to play with this week was Digi Darla's Blooming HeartSince the elements within the heart image were so small, I didn't want to risk screwing up the image with markers and decided to colour this one digitally.  I scanned each of the papers I was using for the project and then matched the colours using my eye dropper so that the heart goes perfectly with the rest of the piece.  It was then printed onto Recollection's Cardstock White PaperThis process gave me more time working within Photoshop Essentials, so that was a definite bonus.
  • Sentiment:  The sentiment is Digi Darla's All Things Bloom With Love.  It was also printed onto Recollection's Cardstock White Paper. I thought that this sentiment went perfectly with the image I used.  It is always awesome to find sentiments that can be used with images offered by the same designer.  So far, I'm really impressed with the wide offerings available with the Digi Darla line.
  • Paper:  The cream paper used for the card base is Recollection's CardstockThe orangey-brown coloured paper used as a shadow and as a border is Michael's open stock scrapbook paper.  All the designer papers are from K & C Company:  Best of...Collection which I purchased at Wal-Mart.
  • Embellishments:  The flowers and green brads are from Dollarama.
  • Card Versatility:  I do love the versatility of this card.  Just like the last one, it could suit my purposes for any occasion of a romantic nature.  I could use it for a Valentines day card, an anniversary card, a wedding card or just to say 'I love you'. I always love when an image, or a card for that matter, can suit more than one purpose.  More 'bang for the buck' as they say.

Challenges I hope to enter include:

Can you believe Valentine's Day is only three days away?  It is the perfect time for you to create those Valentine's themed cards.  Since you have to make them anyways, why not enter our challenge and possibly walk away with a great prize for your all your efforts?  So, please pop over and join us at Digi Darla's Challenges.  While you are there, please check out the wonderful projects offered up from my colleagues on the DT.  We look forward to seeing what your creative little minds come up with!

Thank you so much for stopping by.  As I've now added to my comment section, whether you are a regular, here for the first time or popping over in your official capacity as a DT member, please know how much I appreciate the words that you leave behind.  Your encouragement helps me to become a better designer.   I try my best to reply to your comments (when an email address is available) but that is getting more and more difficult as my plate fills up with new responsibilities, new roles, and new obligations.  If I don't get the opportunity to thank you personally, know that I don't take a single comment for granted. Thank you for your understanding.

Until next time,

Note: I apologize if there are any formatting issues.  This is a scheduled post and we all know Blogger has a mind of it's own.  If it turns out that something looks wonky, I'll fix it as soon as I'm able to.

This is really a stunning card. For the light you might want to check out Walmart... I got a light in the craft section that closes and that imitates the daylight. It was not expensive which was perfect for me.

I also really love your new watermark. Very creative and love the red ;)
