Card Design: Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge #40

Hey Peeps.  There are just two hours and 10 minutes to go before it becomes Dr. Who central in this household.  Just enough time for me to get this post done and work on a couple small things before I head downstairs.  I swear even Yahoo mail is in the Whovian spirit.  I just finished putting a message together and the captcha I had to fill out to send it off was 's o n i c s'.  I swear!  Google has Dr. Who fever as well.  For the last couple days, the Daleks have been seen located beside the Google search bar and there is even an interactive Google Doodle called the Whodle where you choose whichever incarnation of the Doctor you want and then set off on going through a number of levels completing your task whilst avoiding the dreaded Daleks.  If they get you, you hear the word , "Exterminate!!!".  I only managed to complete one level because I REALLY need to get some work done so I don't miss any of the festivities later this afternoon.

So, on that note, Allons-y!

While out and about this week looking through challenges, I came across one over at Doodle Pantry. Now I am familiar with Doodle Pantry a little bit.  They have some awesome freebies available.  Some on going, some for limited periods.  This was the first time though that I paid any real attention to their challenge.  Now normally, I don't have the luxury of time to create just to meet the needs of a particular challenge.  My DT work and the three cards a month I make for the two progressive challenges I am part of, don't leave me much in the way of extra creating time.  However, after reading the rules for this challenge, I just knew I had to enter.  Not only is Doodle Pantry extremely generous when it comes to their freebies--as they are not just single images but folders full of goodies--they are also extremely generous when it comes to entering their challenges.  If you use a Doodle Pantry image (not just a sentiment) then not only will your name be entered for a final prize coupon BUT you will also get the featured product for free.  How amazing is that?  Now of course, you are welcome to submit cards following the rules and theme using an image from any digital company but you will only be entered into the draw for the final prize coupon.

Check out the amazing featured product up for grabs in this challenge, for those who do enter using a Doodle Pantry image...
Not only do you have a choice of the main image as a standard black and white digi but you also get the coloured version which is great when you are short on colouring time.  Then, you also get THREE sentiments!  But wait...they aren't done yet.  On top of all the goodies I have already mentioned, you also receive a total of NINE digital papers!!!!  THREE patterned ones and SIX solid coloured ones.  Aren't those snowmen absolutely adorable?!  The coloured one especially will be great for getting in an extra quick Christmas card or two.

Now I don't know about you, but for me that it is darn good incentive to create a card and enter the challenge.  Everyone is a winner AND unlike progressive challenges where if you miss a challenge you lose the opportunity to play in future ones, the challenge at Doodle Pantry is set so that ANYONE can enter at ANY time, and still have the opportunity to earn the freebie package (following the rules of course).

Now, I only came across this challenge earlier this week, so it didn't give me a lot of time to come up with something to enter.  Thank goodness the theme this month is Any Digi Goes and since I still hadn't created a card for my good friend Naomi's son Michael, who is recovering from surgery, AND I had a few freebies already to choose from, I was fortunate enough to find something that I could use to make him a 'feel better soon' card.

Check it out...

Bunny Slippers set:  Look at all the incredible items included in this particular freebie folder.  With just one set, the card possibilities are endless!  I've linked up the watermark to the set's location in the store.

 FRONT
Digital Image:
  • Bunny Slippers:  These are the cutest bunny slippers I think I have ever seen.  Every time I look at them I just want to say, "Awwwwww!".  As this is a pre-coloured image it saved me some time.  I went with the green ones since it was being made for a young boy.
Digital Sentiment:
  •  I decided to use the 'Just for You' sentiment from the set for the front of the card.

INSIDE
Digital Sentiment:
  •  For the inside of my card, I went with the 'Feel Better Soon' sentiment from the set.

OVERALL

Paper Products:
  • Card base: Michael's Recollection's Cardstock, white.
Digital Paper Products:
  •  I used four different digital papers from this set.  Specifically, I used DPBunnySlippersPAPER2, 3, 5 and 6.
Other Notes:
  • To move the assembly of the card along even quicker, I decided to do some digital layering before I printed things out.  It would also save some ink in the process so I figured it was a win-win situation.
  • I layered paper 5 (cream) onto paper 6 (green) for a matted look, then added the sentiment and bunny slippers on top before printing it out.
  • For the inside, I did the same thing, only using a different sentiment and not including an image.
  • I used paper 2 (plaid) for the background on both the front and inside.
  • I printed off a strip of that adorable bunny paper (number 3) for an accent for the left hand side of the front.
  • I printed off a strip of the green (number 6) and then used a Recollection's punch to give it some definition.  I specifically went with this punch because to me, I can see little bunny ears in the edging.
Challenges I am entering:

Other challenges I might get it into...While I am running short on time right now, I hope I'll be able to add some a bit later in the week.

There is just enough time left for all you quick card makers to enter this challenge as it doesn't close until tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. EST.  If you need a Doodle Pantry image to work with, you can find some brilliant ones on their freebie page HERE.  Now if you don't have the chance to enter a card but would like to purchase that adorable snowmen set, you can find it in the store by clicking HERE or on the watermark of it, above.

The great thing is that now that I know about this challenge, I might be able to participate on a regular basis as each challenge begins on the 1st of the month and closes on the 24th, giving me three whole weeks to pull something together.

Okay, it is now 4:30 p.m., so that leaves me just 1/2 hour left to get some other stuff done.  We are getting closer...

Geronimo!
